About

About me, my experience and current affairs.

From an early age gaming and technology fascinated me. My highest grade in secondary school was in ICT, building very basic HTML websites and .BAT files to play practical jokes on my fellow school friends. After school I was unsure what I wanted to do, I decided that web development was the way forward. I went on to study web development at College for 3 years before moving on to Manchester Metropolitan University to study Computer Science.

This opened new possibilities as I was learning more computer languages than I thought my brain could handle. After University I started my first job as a Web Developer and Graphic Designer for an agency that built insurance quoting systems for companies like Go Compare, Esure and Compare the Market. My first actual project was to completely redesign and build Go Compares quoting system.

I moved on from this role after 2 years to gain experience in marketing. Working with an agency that focussed mainly on SEO and Pay Per Click I started my long journey into mastering SEO and PPC. After 4 years I moved on to be the Head of IT for a local construction company. Here I worked with them for almost 2 years to enhance their website, marketing structure and internal systems. I built a CRM system for this company and moved them away from paper files.

2020 – 2021… The pandemic

When COVID-19 hit and businesses were forced to shut for the first National Lockdown I saw an opportunity to help businesses move to online. Macbeth Designs was thriving, I left my full time job as the Head of IT and focussed on this. Near the end of 2020 work was dying down and I started to panic.

I was approached by an agency via LinkedIn who asked if I could lend a hand with a couple of web projects and here we are… a freelancer was born. This type of work has grown with more agencies reaching out to me.
